What Is a Sick Visit?
Being sick often comes at impromptu times. Most will try to nurse themselves back to health using at-home remedies, but others require a sick visit to a medical practitioner. The latter is often an ideal choice when symptoms become too severe or have drawn out past what is typical for a common sickness, such as a cold. Let us explore all the reasons to schedule a sick visit.
Conditions considered a sick visit
It is important to note that we view sick visits as non-emergency. Therefore, if a situation is an immediate threat to one's health, such as chest pain, numbness on one side of the body, or lacerations, we strongly suggest contacting emergency services. However, if one is experiencing any of the following, a sick visit to our office is warranted:
Allergies
Allergies can occur in anyone at any age. One can be allergic to food, inhalants, medications, bugs or animals, or substances like latex. Common indicators of an allergic reaction include itchy or burning eyes, runny nose, headaches, rash, dizziness, drop in blood pressure, and a rapid heart rate. It should be noted that while we treat allergies, if one's allergic reaction becomes severe and life-threatening, contact emergency services first, then contact our office after receiving treatment. If not done already, we can pinpoint the source of allergies through testing and provide appropriate prescriptions to prevent severe reactions or alleviate side effects.
Dehydration
While it can be easy to address, dehydration can warrant a sick visit without addressing it properly. It can manifest as causing one to feel lethargic, have a weak pulse, trouble concentrating, confusion, dry mouth, dark or strong-smelling urine, or less frequent desire to urinate. Dehydration can also occur in individuals of any age but is more serious in infants and the elderly as they may be unable to communicate every symptom. We can provide fluids and educate patients on appropriate water intake moving forward.
Fever
If one is experiencing a fever over 100.4 for longer than 48 hours with no accompanying symptoms, visit our office. There can be a number of reasons this is happening, and we can run various tests to pinpoint the source. It is important not to try and take various medications at home to prevent over-medicating or causing conflict between the types of medications in use.
Flu-like symptoms
The CDC reports that 16 to 31 million U.S. citizens contracted the influenza virus, or the flu, in the 2022 - 2023 season. Many know that a virus must run its course, and once contracted, there is little anyone can do to cure it. However, by providing appropriate medication, we can help with the accompanying symptoms, including congestion, runny nose, fever, body aches, chills, and headaches.
Abdominal problems
Abdmonimal problems can range from pain, nausea, and vomiting. The root cause of these symptoms can result from irritable bowel syndrome, appendicitis, a stomach virus, or food poisoning. We can run various tests and provide treatment for symptoms until we can pinpoint the cause.
Urinary problems
If one is experiencing painful, off-colored, strong-odored, less frequent, excessive, or bloody urine, this warrants a sick visit. This also applies if there is pus, itching, burning, warts, or lesions in or around the genitals, pain during sex, or excessive pain during a menstrual cycle. These symptoms can be a result of an STD, bacterial infection, or urinary tract infection, all of which we can help treat.
